at the hp pavilion ahead of tomorrow's slate of games. >> the fans equal a win for san jose's economy. monte francis live in san jose where you spoke to downtown businesses with more on the economic impact. good morning, monte. >> marla, good morning. in 2010, this tournament generated about $20 million for san jose's economy. expectations this time around are just as high. as you said, college basketball fans from across the country flying into san jose for the tournament. hotels, bars, restaurants in downtown san jose are hoping to recover some of the money they lost with nhl lockout this past season. we're told right now many hotels in san jose are fully booked. when it comes to ncaa's impact on the local economy, there is a trickle down effect. the ceo of the san jose silicon valley chamber of commerce says when the hotels are booked, that translates to more revenue for restaurants, bars, and cafes. >> the expectations are always high. obviously the economic impact can vary. i think the numbers we heard from 2010 were about $20 million in economic impact. so whenever you can bring people

. >> another traffic issue is in san jose. the c.h.p. is investigating a body found on interstate 280. this is a look at the scene. the coroner arrived at the southbound side of 280 near the off-ramp. you can see a heavy c.h.p. presence there after the body was found in the lanes before 3:30 this morning. we are told it is the body of a woman, not known if she was lit by cars on the friend or died some other way. there is a sig-alert in affect. >> what can drivers do in san jose and sausalito to try to get around the situation? >> this is live shot of sky 7 at wall drove grade. the best way i think to get around this is the golden gate ferry, you can take the bay bridge and. cog around but the jamup is expensive, and backed up into sausalito. can you get through sausalito on surface streets but that will be a major jam up. as far as the south bay, the accident, the fatal accident southbound 280, that accident also is blocking the three right lanes and the best alternate is to take southbound 280 to northbound 880 and northbound 880 to southbound 101 and sig-alert in san jose southboun

the suspects could have been linked to an armed robbery in san jose. here's the intersection where the drive-by shooting happened and police were led on a wild chase through three east bay cities late last night. our cameras caught the chase north through 880. police tried to pull the driver other in hayward for dui and reckless driving. but he sped off through san leandro and oakland. the car spun out of control between 580 between harrison and park and police cars slammed into it to box the car in. officers say people were throwing things out on the roadway. they never found the objects but officers did find weapons inside the vehicle when it finally stopped. >> they pursued the vehicle in oakland where it crossed across the center median. the three occupants were taken into custody from there. >> reporter: police believe those three could be tied to a shooting in hayward early yesterday afternoon. a man was driving with his wife and child at tennyson and kalaroga when he was struck by a bullet and taken to the hospital. he's expected to survive. a hayward police officer tweeted around mid

that shut down several lanes of highway 280 in san jose this morning. other drivers found the victim's body in the middle of the freeway around 3:15 this morning and called 911. the victim is identified as 39-year-old amanda vente of san jose. officers don't know why she was walking on the freeway and said all she had on her was a set of keys. the chp is asking for the help of anyone who might have witnessed this hit and run. >>> south bay residents have another chance to turn in guns for cash this weekend. santa clara county is hosting its second gun buy-back event tomorrow morning in east san jose. the first one was held earlier this month and paid out over $100,000 to residents bringing in handguns, rifles and assault weapons. tomorrow's event will run from 8:00 a.m. to noon at reid-hillview airport in east san jose. guns should be brought unloaded in the trunk of a car or bed of a truck. event organizers are also inviting gang members to come down and turn in their gang colors. >>> livermore wine makers are celebrating the start of spring but also keeping a close watch on the weather. l

san jose officials about city affairs must be made public. this comes following a ruling from a santa clara county judge. the move is meant to close a loophole in the state's public records law. the ruling is a victory for those accusing california of a public records act. >>> ktvu learned -- agents used passengers blue tooth devices to track them through the airport. passenger groups are not happy about it. >> reporter: lines can be long. documents show tsa tested a project to measure how long sensors in the terminal to find your blue tooth device, hone in and track you. and how long it takes you to get through security. it detects signals and calculates a wait time. the information would be encrypted and destroyed within two hours. we've learned they tested this technology in 2012 in las vegas and indianapolis. then bailed on it. >> this is an expensive and complicated way of estimating average wait times. compared with having a ticket agent write the time. >> reporter: tsa has been dealing with complaints about how it handles privacy.
